Mary Katrantzou, SS 2011

This drawing doesn't do this collection justice and it was really hard to pick one image to sum it all up.  Basically I was drawn to the use of prints and structure.  The silhouettes were creative, unusual, and some how wearable (for the brave soul).  Its the perfect dress to start off the new season.

What the experts have to say... ""With this collection, I wanted to put the room on the woman, rather than the woman in the room," Katrantzou said after the show. ...Katrantzou said she worked in three dimensions for the first time while designing her prints, and there was an almost hallucinatory depth to the images she lifted from old issues of Architectural Digest and World of Interiors, once they were laid over her precisely fitted silhouettes. Spring Summer 2011.....go

Today marks the first SS 2011 post.  Looking out my window I know it couldn't come at a better time.  The process of narrowing down and showing the looks started out as a whatever I was feeling in the moment.  For this new season, I really focused on my choices and the order of the looks.  I started out with over 400 looks and finally narrowed it down to around 120.  Here are some pictures documenting the editing process.

trying to organize the looks into some sort of sequence....The most annoying part was when the cat would come in and decide to lay on top, hence why I moved to the table below.

a pile of discarded looks.  It wasn't always easy

The final edit. layed out and sequenced for the coming months

I hope you enjoy the edit.  It was hard work, but I think it makes this blog and project stronger. Now if only I could nail down what this is all about and why I feel compelled to do it.

Tory Burch, resort 2011

Don't have the guts to wear these short shorts, but I do in a drawing.  Again I am confused by the boots, but I forgive you Tory...your one of my favorites.

This is what an expert has to say: "A trip to Rajasthan earlier this year inspired Tory Burch's latest collection. What did the globe-trotting designer take away from the Indian state? Vibrant colors, of course. And prints. Lots of them." style.com, Romney Leader

Check out the rest of the collection at style.com or visit Tory's site

This is the end of my picks for Resort 2011, next week Spring 2011 starts!  I am doing things a little different...stay tuned.

Tory Burch, resort 2011

One of my favorite resort lines of the season.  I originally picked 7 looks, but was able to narrow it down to two.  I am a sucker for pattern on pattern and Tory Burch's line doesn't disappoint.  I could get by with out the moon boots, but the scarf and sweater I will glady take.

Thakoon, resort 2011

This drawing isn't doing justice to this coat...so check it out for yourself here

In another world... someone feared they were full of toxins due to the lack of sweat accumulating while sitting in a sauna this past weekend.  Is that something to worry about?

Rebecca Taylor, resort 2011

It was hard just picking two looks.  Love the details in the sleeves of this knitted top.

In another world....someone had to watch their husband get stuck in between two trees while snowboarding this past weekend.  It was a little scary, but he was ok.

Rebecca Taylor, resort 2011

Rebecca Taylor is one of those designers that I could easily say "I'll take it" to every look.  Airy top with a dark skirt, I'll take it.

Alexander Wang, resort 2011

I just read that Alexander Wang is only 25 years old!  Ok I know I shouldn't compare myself to others, but A. Wang is on some other time line for accomplishments.  If you wear these pants be prepared for stares.  I have never seen a pair of pants with so many side pleats.  It took me years to slowly get rid of my husbands pleated pants and I have been anti pleats for so long that it surprises me that I was drawn to these.  I guess not so much because I want to wear them, but because they are interesting and different. This drawing doesn't do them justice so if you are interested click here to see the collection.

Kenzo, Resort 2011

I say if you got to work in a grape vineyard wear this outfit.  Sure it will cost a lot and the grapes will stain it, but you'll look good.  It makes me think of Lucy Ricardo stomping grapes in I love Lucy.
If you want to see the rest of collection you can visit Kenzo's website.

Also did you know you can watch NY fashion week live thanks to youtube....here is the link

Kenzo, Resort 2011

I was drawn to Kenzo's flowy silhouettes and their use of floral prints.  The looks are a welcome relief from the drab/cold winter.  Now if only I had the guts to wear a scarf on my head.  Thats whats great about drawing...you can get away with wearing anything.

Here is a snippet of what the experts have to say:

"It's a big anniversary year for the label, and Marras looked back to Kenzo Takada's earliest work almost four decades ago, when the Japanese designer was busy injecting color and spirit into the uptight Parisian fashion scene."  Style.com, Tim Blanks

By the way...Happy Valentines Day

any plans?  at the time that I am writing this we don't have any. I have inundated Peter with suggestion for what he could get me, including a 4,000 dollar Stella McCartney Dress. :)  Its the blue dress that I drew myself in on my blog a week ago

The past two years we have gone to Yoshi's Cafe, which is soooooooo yummy.

I was looking for a youtube video to post for the occasion and typed in the word
"heart", which brought up the band and made me think of when the Decemberists did a Heart cover...so amazing!  ps. I wish I could sing like that girl with the short hair....maybe I can and I just haven't tried.  hold on.........Nope, Peter confirms that I don't sound like that girl

Stella McCartney, Resort 2011

Ok, going to try something new with the blog...I'm going to try my hand at writing and letting you guys know why I was drawn to and drew each outfit.  I might even write about other things, who knows...this is officially a test, so come along for the ride.

Ooohh Stella...not only do I love your name and your dad's once united band, but I also love your resort line.  What stood out for me and what I wish I could have hanging in my closet was the blue dress I already posted and this little number.  A large floral-print jacket with matching shorts.  Where could I wear this I don't know, but I think Chicago needs this outfit to contrast the piles of snow.

Ok not exactly a review you would see in Vogue, but I am not an editor and I don't even want to tell you what I got on the english part of the SAT's...if you are desiring to know what the pro's thought here is a link and snippet:   "Resort is an optimistic, hopeful season for McCartney. "I love early spring; everything's alive again and growing," she said. "I think the clothes reflect that." Micro-shifts came splashed with lush botanical prints..."  Style.com, Nicole Phelps

If you are desiring to buy these outfits and actually have the cash flow and or don't mind credit card debt click on the link, which will send you to Stella McCartney's website.
